Prof Hannes Steinberg was born and grew up in Johannesburg and studied medicine at WITS University. As a young medical doctor, he worked at a rural Hospital in Limpopo province, South Africa. He is presently associated with the department of Family Medicine at UFS in Bloemfontein, responsible for the training of Family Physicians for southern Africa. He has been a member of CMF-RSA since undergraduate years and served on the executive in various positions during the last three decades. He currently serves on the ICMDA Board. He is married to Ute Hallbauer, a paediatrician and they have 2 daughters, Miriam and Naomi.

Dr Michael Burke
Dr Michael Burke MBBS, MPH& TM, MSc (Clin Epi), PhD, FRACGP currently is an Associate Professor at KIlimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC). He lectures in public health, geriatrics and family medicine. He has lived in Tanzania for fourteen years involved in clinical, program, policy and research work. He for many years has been the executive officer of HealthServe Australia, now known as HealthServe Global. Michael is engaged in many International Christian Medical and Dental Association (ICMDA) activities. He is keen to see HEAL grow and provide important support to many communities. He is married to Jean, a social worker and has three adult sons.
Prof David G Smithard
David G Smithard BSc MBBS MD FRCP FRCSLT(Hon)
Biography
David is a volunteer with the Christian Medical Fellowship and is the editor of the magazine Triple Helix. As editor he commissions writers and with other members of the team, edits articles prior to publication.
David is married to Maggie and has 4 grown up children and 8 grandchildren.
Academically, David is a Visiting Professor at the University of Greenwich and has published papers (140 publications) in the field of Ethics, Swallowing, Dysphagia, Frailty and Stroke.
Clinically, David is a consultant physician in Older People’s Medicine (Geriatrics/ Frailty) at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in South East London.
David is the editor of Triple Helix, the magazine of the Christian Medical Fellowship UK and the European Regional Secretary for the International Christian Medical and dental Fellowship.
Dr Augustin Lutakwa
Dr Augustin K. Lutakwa, MD, MBCHB(UKZN), MMED(UKZN), FCS(SA)
Augustin was born in the DR Congo and trained as a General Surgeon in South Africa where he now lives and works. He serves as an Associate Executive Officer (AEO) for ICMDA Sub-Saharan Africa, where he promotes the mission, vision and core values of ICMDA among students and junior graduates. He was also the Congress Director for the 17th ICMDA World Congress held in Arusha, Tanzania in 2023.
