Stand with Madagascar

Dear Partners,
While Cyclone FYTIA recently brought hardship to communities in western Madagascar, the eastern regions have now been severely struck by Cyclone Gezani, which made landfall in Toamasina, the island’s main port. The national disaster management office has described the situation as “total chaos,” reporting widespread destruction, collapsed homes, and loss of life. Entire neighbourhoods have been left in darkness as power lines were torn down, with trees uprooted and roofs ripped away (Images here).
Current reports indicate that as many as 250,000 people have been affected or displaced.
The main local government hospital has suffered major damage, including the loss of its roof, forcing patients to be rerouted to other facilities. Dr. Fabruce, a surgeon at Bethany Hospital, reports that their resources are severely overstretched and that they urgently need support. Many patients, already distressed by the disaster, are unable to pay for care.
Our partner organisation, the Christian Medical and Dental Association of Madagascar (LIOKA), has reached out to request assistance, as hospitals across the region are overwhelmed.
In light of this crisis, I believe it is important for me to join the initial assessment team traveling to Toamasina. My role will be to evaluate conditions on the ground, identify the most urgent needs, and determine the personnel, medical resources, and humanitarian support required for an appropriate and effective response. I will keep you updated as we learn more.
Those who are able and willing to contribute in any way are warmly invited to do so.
All financial support may be directed by clicking HERE. For material donations or other forms of assistance, please contact us directly so we can coordinate effectively according to needs on the ground.
We express our sincere gratitude for your prayers, encouragement, and every form of support you extend to those affected.
With gratitude and blessings,
Augustin,
